Respite is such a wonderful program for us, and we greatly appreciate it.  When my child was small, I had a wonderful provider who gave me weekly time to get out of the house to run errands and rejuvenate.  Now, as my children are older, I use the time to spend with my non-special needs child, or to go to doctor appointments.  I cannot imagine how much more stressful my life would be without respite.
